Giving back is what sports is all about and it is no different for the former South African and African Champion sprinter Geraldine Pillay-Viret (married name). Pillay won silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m Commonwealth Games in 2006 amongst many other achievements.

Geraldine Pillay-Viret, who is from Macassar, a town about 50km outside Cape Town, will be having the Geraldine Pillay 5km Fun Run. The race is scheduled to take place on the 16th of December on Day of Reconciliation and offers to be lots of fun for her local community where she attended school at Zandvliet High school. The event will consist out of a 5km fun run as well as a 2km Pram fun walk for all the mommies and daddies with prams and babies.

The race starts at 8:00am at the Macassar sports field and there is no entry fee to take part. The aim of the event is to bring a community together around fun, laughter and entertainment. The Geraldine Pillay 5km Fun Run is sponsored by Nike SA and they will sponsor the prizes for the first 3 finishers in each categories. The different categories is for juniors, girls, boys, senior women and senior men. According to Pillay, who is organising the event alongside Arthur Moses, (a local resident of Macassar) there will be a plethora of activities taking place on the ground after the race and urges the community to come out and make this a fun day for the family and support those who will take part in the races.
